Deactivation of PAN:

If you haven’t linked your Permanent Account Number (PAN) with your Aadhaar number, the PAN card may become ‘inactive’ as per the current rules set by the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT). This means that you will not be able to carry out financial transactions using your PAN card. 3. Select the applicable tax.
  4. Ensure payment under minor head 500 and major head 0021 in the same challan.
  5. Choose the mode of payment, either net banking or debit card.
After this, enter your PAN number, select the assessment year, and register the address. Finally, enter the CAPSA correctly and click on Continue. You can now easily pay the penalty amount online to link your PAN and Aadhaar cards.

The Income Tax Department has extended the deadline for linking Aadhaar with PAN card. The citizens who have not yet linked their Aadhaar with PAN are advised to link it by June 30, 2023, to avoid deactivation of their PAN card. The Income Tax Department has made it mandatory for every citizen of India to link both identity cards. However, there are certain exceptions to this rule. PAN-Aadhaar linking is not mandatory for non-Indian citizens, citizens aged 80 or above in FY 2022-23, residents of Jammu and Kashmir, Meghalaya, and Assam, and non-resident Indian taxpayers.

The Indian government had previously made it mandatory for all citizens to link their PAN card with their Aadhaar card. The deadline for linking them was initially March 31, 2022, but the Central Board of Direct Taxes (NSDL) extended it to March 31, 2023, for the convenience of the public. Subsequently, the deadline was further extended until June 30, 2023. Nevertheless, it should be noted that starting April 1, 2022, penalties will be imposed on individuals who fail to link their Aadhaar and PAN cards.
